Exploratory Essay Comments
In class we had to comment on each others exploratory essays. I received some very good feedback from my group members. The first thing they noticed as a whole was that I need to state the theme I am connecting earlier in the paper. I waited until about half way through the paper to start to connect the sources together. Meredith suggested to add more questions, add quotes in certain places, which I will definitely do. Lynnsey saw some issues with clarity through out which I will also go back and fix. Josh also pointed out some of the clarity mistakes I made which were very helpful. One of the things I noticed was how different all of our papers were approached. I don't think any of us have had an assignment quite like this before so everyone was on a learning curve. I'm glad we had this session and I wish we could do I for every class!

When you were writing your reflection on the workshop, did you ever think that the workshop with your peers actually helped you more than the teacher commenting on it and grading it? I thought about that the whole time while writing my reflection and it makes you think that the workshop gives you, as a writer, a second chance to get it right before the grading. It gives you a reader's perspective so you know what the teacher is going to be thinking about while reading your work also.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on how difficult the assignment was to interpret and eventually complete. I think the fact that we're so used to giving our own opinions and backing them up with evidence was clearly hindering our ability to complete the assignment without opining at all. I know for sure I've never written something quite like this before; I think that we've all taken a bit of a risk in submitting our papers on this one. All I can think to do is to defend your choices in the reflection and constantly ask yourself: am I meeting the assignment's conditions? I had to ask myself that question pretty much after every sentence!!
ReplyDeleteStill, I think it helped and this assignment gave me a lot to think about in terms of how I might approach it and future assignments in this class.
PS: I really appreciated the notes you gave me in workshop about fixing my run-on sentences. I have a HUGE problem with them and I needed your helpful suggestions, thanks!
